This is made from a blend of two grape varieties: Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. As a result it is a great blend of very ripe, tropical fruit flavours with some refreshing, zesty citrusy flavours as well. It is a Fair Trade wine, allowing the farm workers own the vineyards and are paid a fair wage for the grapes produced. Stellenrust bottled its first wine on the farm in 1928. Today the winery is run by the brothers Tertius (winemaker) and Kobus (viticulturist), and is one of the largest family-run Fairtrade estates in Stellenbosch, with 500 hectares of land under vine. The brothers are committed to following their father’s dream: to give back to the workers, who themselves had given so much to the farm. Stellenrust now boasts one of the biggest and most successful Black Economic Empowerment projects in South Africa.
