Description

Bright, fresh, medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. Bright redcurrant fruit, medium-bodied and fresh with dusky spice, light tannins and a cool herbal, sappy finish. The Martin family who own the vineyard at the cool, hilly farm still only grows Sauvignon, Merlot, peaches and apples. They are of French extraction (of course) now forth generation Chilean and today work with winemaker Eric Monnin to create the style of the wine from the 40-60 year old vineyards. Elsewhere Eric Monnin has grown a close relationship with the aptly-named Hacienda Valle Frio, a beautiful 200 year old estate in the rocky,Riverine Maule Valley. Over the last 5 years Eric has worked closely with winemaker Rodrigo on extracting the very best expression of their mountainous site apparent in the Sierra Grande Chardonnay and Cabernet. The vineyard is situated at altitude and is sheltered from the heat to prevent over extraction and allow for a wine with balanced, bright acidity. Fruit is sourced from old vines, 25 to 40 yrs. A cool short fermentation to preserve fruit aroma and maceration on the skins for only a few days to extract nice colour but minimal tannins. No oak is used. Early bottling to keep the wine’s youthful style. Food Recommendations:- Try with herby roast leg of lamb, char-grilled steak, stuffed baked red peppers.
