Classic Italian styling – juicy cherry fruit and powerful pepper and spice. An intensely fruity wine. Memorable and super ripe, with opulent plum and cherry fruit. This is mirrored on the palate, evolving to spicy oak and liquorice, followed by a super firm, dry finish. Tenute Toscane is part of the wine family of Baroncini, incorporting a number of estates such as Il Faggeto and Torre Terza in different parts of Tuscany, and overseen by Bruna Baroncini. Baroncini have over five centuries of wine-making history, and are an excellent source of well-presented and authentic classics from ‘middle Italy’. The vineyard of Pietra del Diavolo is in Montepulciano. The soil is clayey and slimy, with traces of limestone and a shallow substratum of tuff. The trellis system is spurred cordon with dug soil and planting is 3500 vines/hectare, while the average output per hectare is 50 hectolitres. The vineyard is 400 metres above sea level and is mild with cold winters and warm summers, with showers concentrated in autumn and spring. Manual harvest. Alcoholic fermentation with controlled temperature (less than 30° C) for 15 days. Malolactic fermentation in steel vats. Matured in 3000l oak barrels for a period of 24 months. Matured in bottle for 6 months Food Recommendations:- Ideally suited to dishes with rich tomato sauces, and also balances lamb beautifully. Try with Mediterranean lamb kebabs or moussaka..
