Description

A classic Valpolicella – juicy cherry balanced with subtle herbaceous notes. Suprisingly fresh and clean on the palate. A fresh, medium bodied red with lively aromas of cherries, violets and almonds and a hint of the gently herbal character typical of Valpolicella. Soft, velvety palate showing a touch of sour cherry, and subtle pepper and spice. This long established Veronese family company, headed by Giorgio Montresor, is producing wines which increasingly rival the offerings of the region’s more fashionable names. The estate wines, from 100 ha of vineyards in Valpolicella and Garda, offer remarkable value for money, particularly the Capitel della Crosara vineyard near Negrar which produces fine, richly-flavoured Ripasso and a generous, classically-styled Amarone with great concentration and texture. Made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes cultivated in selected vineyards in Valpolicella. The vines are trained on traditional trellises and planted in marl soil. Grapes are picked by hand. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 16 degrees with 36 hours maceration on the skins to extract light tannins and colour. The wine is matured for 6 months in large Slavonian oak casks, fined with bentonite and lightly filtered before bottling. Food Recommendations:- Drink with pasta in a tomato, olive and vegetable or meat sauce smothered in fresh Parmesan.
